Sigri is the bigger natural harbour in Lesvos Island. His bay protected with unique way from the Megalonisi or Meganisi or Nisiopi as called at the past because that island is extended at lenght of Sigri coast. In Meganisi Island exist the big imposing lighthouse that was manufactured in 1861 from French Company of Lighthouses. The altitude of tower is 20 metres and the height of focal plane is 55 m. Also above in the island they exist a small church of Saint George, marvellous trunkes of mineralizations trees that begin from the land and they are extended near to the sea and also some ruins royal. The lighthouse rebuilded in 1947 because it had suffered important damage from German during 2nd world war. Included in Greek lighthouses Network at 1912-13. A boat makes every day trips from Sigri to Meganisi Island, except in bad weather contitions, so anyone can easily visited the lighthouse. |
